Mosaic for Mytholmroyd

3rd September 2007

Mosaic for Mytholmroyd asset 1 Mytholmroyd station underwent a makeover when a mosaic depicting scenery around Mytholmroyd and the Upper Calder Valley was unveiled.

The mosaic, on display on the Leeds-bound platform, was designed and created by pupils from Calder High School in conjunction with Mytholmroyd Station Partnership and Northern Rail who sponsored a summer workshop to enable the mosaic to be completed.

Chris Leech, Youth and Community Liaison Manager, Northern Rail said: "The young people have worked extremely hard and have been completely committed to finishing the project. They have put in many hours of hard work. The mosaic creates a lively and vibrant backdrop to the station and I'm sure it will be admired by both passengers and staff for years to come."

The initiative is just one of a number of Northern Rail’s ‘NorthernArt’ initiatives to discourage crime and anti-social behaviour on the rail network. NorthernArt aims to give young artists the public recognition and further opportunities they deserve, rather than limiting their opportunities for creative expression to graffiti on a wall or side of a train.
