While Rooney and the England boys were displaying their skills in Germany, more than 200 budding Beckhams from schools across Leeds competed to be crowned the 2006 champions of train operator Northern's Football in the Community programme, in association with Sportsmatch.
Parklands Primary School in Leeds scooped both the year four and year six title trophy in the competition, held at Leeds United’s Thorpe Arch training ground.
Leeds legend, and ex-South Africa captain, Lucas ‘The Chief’ Radebe was on hand at Thorpe Arch to cheer the youngsters on and offer training tips to those with their eye on a place in a future Leeds squad.
