Monthly Performance Figures
Four week period ending 21 June 2008.
Overall our reliability, the number of trains we ran, was 99.5%. Our punctuality, the number of trains arriving within our Passengers' Charter target was 95.1%.
Factors affecting performance included:
- On 25 May an infrastructure failure at Castleford caused 19 cancellations and disruption to services throughout the day between Leeds, Castleford, Knottingley and Sheffield. Due to the extent of the damage road replacement services were implemented where possible, and an amended timetable introduced whilst essential repairs were carried out.
- A serious lineside fire at Bredbury resulted in the closure of the line on 27 May causing 17 cancellations and disruption to services between Manchester Piccadilly, Marple and Sheffield. Road replacement services were implemented where possible, it was also necessary to introduce an amended timetable for morning services the following day whilst fire services managed the situation.
- On 2 June an infrastructure failure at Ravensthorpe resulted in 28 cancellations and disruption to services between Leeds, Huddersfield and Wakefield Westgate. Due to the extent of the damage it was necessary to implement an amended timetable whilst Network Rail carried out repairs.
- An overhead line and track circuit failure at Slade Lane on 7 June caused 38 cancellations and disruption to services in and out of Manchester Piccadilly. Due to the extent of the damage it was necessary to implement an amended timetable whilst repairs were carried out.
- On 9 June a power supply failure at Manchester Piccadilly resulted in 92 cancellations and major disruption to morning peak services in an around Manchester.
Also on this day a cable theft at Miles Platting caused 15 cancellations and disruption to evening services between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale.
- This period the impact of cable theft on Northern services has been 145 cancellations and 7139 minutes delay. The worst incident this period was on 7 June at Castleford resulting in 35 cancellations and disruption to morning peak services between Leeds, Wakefield and Sheffield.
All of Northern's service groups are currently above the required standards, therefore no discounts apply to season tickets renewed between 29 June - 26 July 2008 inclusive.
